Financial Controller – Lead Nonprofit Finance & Operations
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
A nonprofit religious and educational organization is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee financial operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accuracy. This role requires close collaboration with leadership, clergy, and administrative staff to maintain financial stability and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee all financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting principles.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including processing monthly organization statements and preparing interim financials as needed.
- Handle online banking, prepare cash reports, conduct bank reconciliations, and oversee monthly credit card bill allocations.
- Generate financial reports such as outstanding balances and prior donation reports for solicitations.
- Lead the year-end audit process, including audited financial statements and IRS Form 990.
Payroll & Employee Administration:
- Process payroll for both religious and educational divisions, including journal entries in QuickBooks.
- Oversee employee benefits administration and serve as the liaison with insurance providers.
- Manage the UKG scanning system for payroll and HR documentation.
- Conduct background checks for new employees and oversee employment documentation.
Board & Leadership Support:
- Present financial reports and key insights to leadership.
- Assist in financial planning, budgeting, and cost-saving strategies.
- Provide financial consultation to key staff and administrators.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or Master’s degree preferred).
- 3-5 years of financial management experience, ideally in a nonprofit or educational setting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and other accounting software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
